Usher, Boys & Girls Club launch internship program for Detroiters ahead of R&B tour

May 6, 2026

Usher's youth organization, Usher's New Look, has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit to launch an internship program that will give ten young people aged 18 and older hands-on experience working on his upcoming summer R&B tour with Chris Brown. The "Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition" program is accepting applications from Detroit and Atlanta residents through Friday only, offering training and real-world experience in areas like tour production, multimedia, wardrobe, and operations. Selected interns will receive pre-tour training before joining the tour staff and will also conduct career workshops at Boys & Girls Clubs locations as the tour travels nationwide.

Who is affected

  • Young people ages 18 and older in Detroit and Atlanta eligible to apply for the internship program
  • Ten selected interns who will participate in the program
  • Members of Boys & Girls Clubs across the country who will receive career workshops and training sessions
  • Young people ages 14-24 who have access to the entertainment innovation incubator at Michigan Central Station
  • Members of the Dick and Sandy Dauch Boys & Girls Club location in Detroit

What action is being taken

  • Usher's New Look and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit are accepting applications for the internship program (through Friday)
  • Ten interns are being selected for hands-on experience across tour production, multimedia, wardrobe, community impact, and operations
  • Pre-tour training is being provided to selected interns
  • New Look is engaging with various Boys & Girls Clubs through "Making of the Tour" as the tour travels

Why it matters

  • The live touring industry is a multi-billion dollar global business, but access to entertainment trades remains limited for young people. This program addresses that gap by providing real pathways to lasting careers rather than just access, giving young professionals from underserved communities the opportunity to learn, grow, and work inside the entertainment industry. The program extends beyond the immediate internship cohort through career workshops and peer-to-peer learning experiences at Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide, multiplying its impact on youth development and career opportunities.

What's next

  • Applications close on Friday
  • Selected interns will complete pre-tour training
  • Interns will join The R&B Tour and contribute to live show execution
  • Interns will present career workshops, training sessions, and peer-to-peer learning experiences at Boys & Girls Clubs as the tour travels
  • Usher and Chris Brown will perform three nights at Ford Field on July 2, 3, and 5
