The Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit is transforming its Meldrum Community Center into Refettorio Detroit, a $2. 4 million renovation project that will replace cafeteria-style service with full restaurant-style dining for people experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and addiction. Through a partnership with Food for Soul, a global nonprofit founded by Italian chef Massimo Bottura, the facility will serve plated multi-course meals using surplus ingredients in a space decorated with local artwork to provide dignified hospitality.
