A $300 million proposal to cover portions of Interstate 75 in Detroit with three concrete caps has been unveiled following nearly a year of community engagement involving over 2,000 participant responses. The caps would create public spaces featuring outdoor entertainment venues, walking trails, recreational areas, and public art installations designed to reconnect neighborhoods historically divided by the freeway's construction. The Downtown Detroit Partnership, Michigan Department of Transportation, and City of Detroit developed the concept with support from The Kresge Foundation, with each cap estimated to cost approximately $100 million.
