Acting ICE director Todd Lyons to leave agency

Todd Lyons, who has served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement since March 2025, will depart the agency at the end of May to pursue opportunities in the private sector after nearly twenty years of federal service. During his brief tenure leading ICE, the agency conducted an unprecedented number of deportations and arrests as part of the Trump administration's expanded immigration enforcement efforts, though these operations have generated considerable public controversy. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, himself recently appointed after the removal of Kristi Noem, must now identify a successor to lead the agency's workforce of more than 27,000 employees.
