A one-year federal ban on Medicaid reimbursements to Planned Parenthood and similar reproductive health clinics has expired after Congress failed to renew it before their Independence Day recess, allowing these facilities to once again receive payments for non-abortion services like cancer screenings and STI testing in states that permit such payments. The temporary ban, enacted as part of last year's budget legislation, forced Planned Parenthood to close nearly 30 health centers since July 2025, with two-thirds of closures occurring in rural or medically underserved areas. However, thirteen states have either permanently blocked or are seeking to block these Medicaid reimbursements regardless of the federal policy change, meaning the restoration has limited impact in those jurisdictions.
