San Diego Family Health Fair Brings Families, Health Resources, and Hope Together

June 30, 2026

On June 14, over 300 families attended the San Diego Family Health Fair and Community Baby Shower at the Jackie Robinson YMCA, an event specifically designed to address the disproportionate maternal health challenges faced by Black women in San Diego. Organized by JIREH Providers and UC San Diego Health, with support from multiple community partners including All Saints Church, the fair provided expecting mothers and families with essential services such as free health screenings, ultrasounds, lactation support, and baby supplies including cribs and strollers. More than 70 percent of registered participants were pregnant women who received direct access to healthcare providers, resource navigation assistance, and community connections.

Who is affected

  • More than 300 families in San Diego who attended the event
  • Expecting mothers (over 70% of registered attendees)
  • Black women experiencing disproportionate pregnancy-related complications and maternal healthcare barriers
  • Children and families navigating pregnancy and early parenthood
  • Parents receiving baby supplies, health screenings, and ultrasounds

What action is being taken

  • JIREH Providers and UC San Diego Health team are hosting community health fairs
  • Healthcare providers and support organizations are providing free health screenings, health education, resource navigation, and community referrals
  • Katrina Stevens/Babes & Bellies is providing free ultrasounds
  • All Saints Church volunteers are supporting the event through diaper drives and volunteer hours
  • Community partners are distributing essential baby items (cribs, strollers, diapers, wipes)
  • Organizations are offering lactation support and children's activities

Why it matters

  • This event addresses a critical public health crisis: Black women face significantly higher rates of pregnancy complications, adverse birth outcomes, and barriers to quality maternal care. By providing free access to healthcare services, essential supplies, and trusted community relationships, the fair tackles both medical and socioeconomic barriers that contribute to maternal health disparities. The event demonstrates that birth equity extends beyond clinical care to require comprehensive community support, and it helps reduce financial burdens while connecting families to ongoing resources. As stated by JIREH Providers' CEO, investing in mothers and families represents an investment in the community's future.
