A US federal judge has temporarily halted the proposed $110 billion merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery after twelve states filed a lawsuit claiming the deal would harm competition and increase consumer costs. Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín imposed a fourteen-day restraining order preventing the companies from finalizing their union, citing serious concerns about the merger's effect on movie distribution and noting that reversing the merger later would be extremely difficult. The combined entity would control more than a quarter of major film releases and unite iconic franchises including Harry Potter, Batman, Mission: Impossible, and Top Gun.
