Although Mary Sheffield won Detroit's mayoral election decisively, Reverend Solomon Kinloch Jr. 's unsuccessful campaign represented a meaningful affirmation of community-centered leadership rather than a defeat. Over his 27 years leading Triumph Church, Kinloch grew the congregation from under 100 members to tens of thousands while establishing extensive community programs including food pantries, technology drives, job training, and housing assistance.
